Two ways to move it.

By sea

For most cargo, from cables and clothing to furniture and food. A full container (20ft, 40ft, 40HC) when you have the volume, a shared container when you don't, and reefer containers for grapes, citrus, onions and other produce.

Ships leave Alexandria, Damietta or Port Said and sail west through the Mediterranean to the UK without crossing the Suez Canal. We choose the Egyptian port by where your goods are and which UK port they go to.

Sea freight

By air

For fresh produce such as strawberries, green beans and grapes, and for urgent or light cargo such as samples and spare parts. It leaves from Cairo Airport, where our branch works in the Cargo Village and issues the air waybill, and lands at Heathrow or another UK airport.

What you prepare in Egypt, and what your buyer needs on arrival. Not every item applies to every shipment.

Before it leaves Egypt

  • Exporters register. Your company must be on the exporters register at GOEIC before it can export.
  • Invoice and packing list. Commercial invoice and packing list for every shipment.
  • Certificate of origin. Usually a EUR.1 movement certificate under the UK-Egypt Association Agreement. It can lower duty in the UK if the goods meet its origin rules. Rules of origin in the region changed in 2026, so we confirm with you which proof the UK side accepts.
  • Fresh produce. A phytosanitary certificate from the agricultural quarantine, after inspection.
  • Export declaration. We file it and clear the goods at the port or Cairo Airport.

When it arrives in the UK

  • Customs declaration. Your buyer, usually through a customs agent, makes the UK import declaration and pays any duty and import VAT. They need an EORI number that starts with GB.
  • Plant health. Many fresh fruits and vegetables need a phytosanitary certificate under the UK border controls. Some must also be pre-notified on IPAFFS by the importer and enter through a port or airport with a border control post.
  • Marketing standards. Fresh fruit and vegetables must also meet UK quality and labelling rules, and can be checked against them.

Your buyer's customs agent in the UK confirms what applies to your product.

Questions about shipping to the UK.

Can you ship fresh strawberries, grapes and green beans to the UK?

Yes. Strawberries and green beans usually go by air from Cairo Airport, and grapes by air or in reefer containers by sea. Before they leave, the agricultural quarantine in Egypt inspects them and issues a phytosanitary certificate. On the UK side, your buyer may need to pre-notify the shipment and have it checked at a border control post.

Which certificate of origin does the UK need?

Usually a EUR.1 under the UK-Egypt Association Agreement. If the goods meet its origin rules, your buyer may pay less duty. Rules of origin in the region changed in 2026, so we confirm with you which proof the UK side accepts before the goods ship.

Can you ship furniture or a full container to the UK?

Yes. Furniture, cables, clothing and other commercial cargo go in a full container or, for smaller loads, a shared container. We also take household moves: personal effects and furniture shipped as freight. A single small parcel is usually simpler with a courier.

Who clears the goods in the UK?

Your buyer or their customs agent makes the UK import declaration and pays any duty and import VAT, using an EORI number that starts with GB. If you sell delivered duty paid, DDP into the UK is available on request: we agree it per shipment, and the UK clearance, duty and import VAT are handled on the buyer's behalf as agreed.
